Soap made from vegetable oils has the special feature compared to all other detergent substances that it combines with the lime that is always present in the wastewater to form lime soap immediately after use and thereby neutralizes its surface-active effect on aquatic life (primary degradation). It is therefore relatively easy for the microorganisms to completely break down 100% of these surfactants. According to the OECD, all Sonett soaps are considered to be easily biodegradable.
